DJI has officially entered the 360-degree camera market with the Osmo 360 II, a device designed to directly challenge the dominant position of the Insta360 X6. Both cameras utilize two 1.1-inch square sensors to capture full spherical images and can record 360-degree video at 8K resolution. There are minor differences in maximum frame rates, with the DJI model reaching 60 fps and the Insta360 model topping out at 50 fps. Both devices also support 4K slow-motion recording at 240 fps.
The Osmo 360 II is available in a “Adventure Combo” package that includes the camera body, a USB-C charger for three batteries, a USB cable, a selfie stick with a 1/4-inch thread, lens caps, a camera protective bag, and a magnetic adapter for quick attachment and removal. The camera can be operated directly via the device’s 2-inch touchscreen and physical buttons, or through voice and gesture controls. For more complex editing, users can rely on the DJI Mimo app for Android and macOS, or the DJI Studio software for Windows and macOS.

Editing is essential because footage is saved in the proprietary OSV format, or as proxies in the LRF format. From these 360-degree files, the software can generate virtual camera movements. Users can choose from preset movements or manually set keyframes for custom animations. The software also allows users to convert spherical content into flat formats like “Asteroid” (small planets) or Rabbit Holes. The final output can be exported as JPEGs or MP4s.
Capture Capabilities
Each of the two lenses on the Osmo 360 II features a 1:1.9 aperture and a 2.5mm focal length (equivalent to 8mm on full-frame). Beyond 8K video, the camera captures 360-degree photos in JPEG and RAW formats, with a maximum resolution of 30 megapixels. A unique feature is the 120-megapixel JPEG mode, which significantly improves detail and zoom clarity. However, this high-resolution mode has a trade-off: it takes approximately 15 seconds to process, compared to roughly half that time for standard 30MP images.
For users who do not need 360-degree coverage, the camera can shoot single-lens footage at 4K/60p or 30 megapixels. Standard video features include time-lapse, hyperlapse, slow motion, an electronic image stabilizer called RockSteady 3.0, and a loop mode where the camera overwrites older footage after a set time. The manufacturer lists a dynamic range of 14.5 stops and supports 10-bit D-Log M color grading for post-production work.

Specs and Availability
Audio is captured by four internal microphones, and the device is compatible with external DJI wireless microphones. The camera is rated for 100 minutes of continuous video recording in 8K/30p and offers 105GB of internal storage expandable via microSD cards. It is rated as water-resistant up to 10 meters without a housing, with an optional underwater case extending that depth to 50 meters. Lenses are replaceable if scratched, and several accessories like battery extension poles and heavy-duty clamps are available.
The Osmo 360 II is priced at approximately 590 euros for the standard version and 740 euros for the Adventure Combo. The company has not yet announced a release date for the optional underwater case. In testing, the camera showed no significant weaknesses, though the long processing times for 120MP HDR shots suggest room for improvement in future iterations.
