Ricoh has announced development of the GR IVx, a new compact camera featuring a 40mm lens equivalent — filling out the brand’s fourth-generation GR lineup that launched in September 2025 with the original GR IV at €1,450. The company did not disclose pricing or a specific release date for the upcoming model.
Lens Design and Sensor
The GR IVx uses the same 25.7-megapixel APS-C sensor found in the standard GR IV. Its actual focal length measures 26.1mm, with the 1.5x crop of the APS-C sensor producing a field of view equivalent to 40mm in full-frame terms — close to the natural human perspective. The maximum aperture sits at F2.8 across the zoom range.
Ricoh has revised the optical construction compared to the GR IIIx. The new lens comprises eight elements arranged in six groups, including three aspherical elements. The previous generation used seven elements in five groups with two aspherical pieces. The 3.0-inch monitor remains fixed, matching the configuration of earlier GR models.

Feature Upgrades
Improvements over the third generation carry over from the GR IV, starting with a five-axis image stabilization system replacing the earlier two-axis unit. Internal storage jumps to 53GB from the 2GB found in prior versions. The camera also gains 4K video recording at 30p — the first GR model to move beyond Full HD. A two-stop ND filter remains available for shooting in bright conditions.

Market Position
Ricoh has gradually expanded the GR IV family since its initial launch. The hotshoe mount supports compatible flashes and includes a lens adapter pin for accessory integration. File formats include RAW (DNG) and JPEG, with color spaces covering both sRGB and Adobe RGB. Autofocus options range from auto-area and zone modes to pinpoint focusing and face detection, with manual focus also available.
